Vera Sims is a New Orleans native born June 8,1973. I graduated from Picayune High School in 1991. College graduate from Northwestern University with a master's degree in Adult Learning and Development/Work Force Development. I am a mother of three beautiful young ladies. I started out singing in the church choir at the age of 5 and have continued to sing solos at my church home Little Zion Baptist Church of New Orleans La. Due to the damage of Hurricane Katrina, I relocated to Birmingham Al for 10 years. I have sung for countless wedding ceremonies, comedy shows, and parties. I had the opportunity to sing in the stage play “Church Mess” in Birmingham Al and Miami Florida. I was honored to sing as one of the Raelettes in "An Evening with Ray" under the direction of the talented Sam Warren as he graced the stage as Ray. I also played the role of one of the church ladies in the stage play “The Color Purple,” The Princess that Kissed a Frog in “Disenchanted,” Momma in “Sweet Potato Queens” and Frank N Furter in Rocky Horror. I also sang in tribute shows and music shows such as Aretha Franklin's tribute show, Vintage Vogue Show, Girl Groups of the ’60s, Back to the Chapel, Come and Get Your Love, and Tina Turner's “What’s Love Got to Do with It” tribute. Coming January 5-27, 2024 I am so excited to return to the cast of The Color Purple where I will again play Darlene, one of the messy church ladies, that will narrate the story.
