Role Choice & Experience

Parent Volunteer Positions

We are asking each family to fulfill at least one volunteer position.

• Rehearsal Monitor: Attend the General Rehearsal Session to monitor cast member behavior, keep noise levels down, facilitate clean up after rehearsal and make sure everyone gets picked up safely after rehearsal ends. You will work as part of a scheduled team.

• Publicity: Write press release. Assemble a team and coordinate the distribution and placement of flyers, posters, etc.

• Sets: Help put together and paint set pieces and backdrops for the show.

• Props: Shop for and/or create needed set pieces.

• Cast Party Coordinator: Secure a venue for the cast party at the end of the run. Organize food, beverage, and entertainment. Make flyers for cast. Collect funds (or food items).

• Costume Coordinators: Meet with production staff to help design costumes. Help advise families on costume ideas and how to create or find them. If a general costume is required for the entire cast or a certain group of kids, determine the costume and instruct parents how to make or purchase the needed items; or collect money to purchase/ make the items for them.

• House Manager: Responsibilities include ensuring the safety and comfort of the audience during the performances, liaising with backstage, box office and ushers before and during performances, and helping to solve any problems that may arise with the front of the house.

• Backstage Coordinator: Be at all tech rehearsals to take notes on what cast members will need help with backstage to ensure a successful run. Assigns backstage monitors specific duties (props, quick changes, set changes) and ensure all performers safety, respectful behavior, noise control, and meeting cues at the proper time.

• Backstage Crew: Work in the wings to assist cast members and move set pieces and scenery.

• Performance Monitors: Ensure performers safety, respectful behavior and noise control during tech week and before and during performances. May be asked to assist with costume and set changes if necessary.

• Concessions/Cast Souvenirs: Sell refreshments and show memorabilia before, during and after each performance. Select and purchase concessions items.

• Usher: Make sure the front of house is ready for the audience. Fold programs. Preset VIP reserved seat placeholders. Collect tickets and hand out programs before the show. Clean and straighten out all theater seating before the show.

Actin' Up Youth Theater Workshop

Combined Policy, Waiver, & Release Agreement

Please read the following sections carefully. By signing at the bottom, you acknowledge and agree to all terms outlined across these sections for your minor child/children participating in the Actin' Up Youth Theater Workshop hosted by Cutting Edge Center of the Arts Inc.

1. Facility & Equipment Inspection

The parent(s) or legal guardian(s) will instruct the minor participant that prior to participating in any performing arts activity or event, they should inspect the facilities and equipment to be used. If the participant believes anything is unsafe, they should immediately advise program officials and refuse to participate. If at any time I or my child feel anything is unsafe, we will take all precautions to avoid the unsafe area and refuse further participation.

2. Assumption of Risk

I/We fully understand and acknowledge that:

• There are risks and dangers associated with participation in dance and theater events/activities, which could result in bodily injury, partial or total disability, paralysis, or death.

• Severe social and economic losses or damages could result from these risks.

• These risks and dangers may be caused by the action, inaction, or negligence of the participant, or the action, inaction, or negligence of others, including the Releasees named below.

I/We knowingly accept and assume all such risks and responsibilities for any losses, injuries, or damages following such injury, disability, paralysis, or death, however caused.

3. Release, Waiver, & Indemnity Agreement

I/We hereby release, waive, discharge, and covenant not to sue Cutting Edge Center of the Arts Inc., including its owners, directors, officers, managers, promoters, instructors, agents, employees, consultants, and hosting studio premises (collectively referred to as "Releasees"), from all liability to the undersigned, my/our personal representatives, assigns, executors, heirs, and next of kin for any and all claims, demands, losses, or damages on account of any injury—including death or property damage—arising out of or relating to the event(s), caused or alleged to be caused in whole or in part by the negligence of the Releasees or otherwise.

I/We acknowledge that these activities involve inherent risks, and that injuries received may be compounded or increased by negligent rescue operations or procedures of the Releasees.

This agreement is intended to be as broad and inclusive as permitted by law. If any portion is held invalid, the remainder shall continue in full legal force and effect. On behalf of the participant and individually, if despite this release a claim is made against any Releasee, the parent(s)/guardian(s) will reimburse the Releasee for any payments made on the participant's behalf and hold them harmless.

4. Media & Photo Release

I understand that photos, audio, and videos are periodically taken during rehearsals and performances. I consent to having photographs, audio, or video recordings of my child used by Cutting Edge Center of the Arts Inc. (its assigns or successors) for publicity, marketing, website, and publication purposes. All media remains the sole property of Cutting Edge Center of the Arts Inc., with full rights to duplicate and distribute free and clear of any claims.

5. Emergency Medical Consent

I hereby give consent for my child to be treated by emergency medical personnel, a physician, or a surgeon in the event of sudden illness or injury during participation with Actin' Up Youth Theater Workshop at Cutting Edge Center of the Arts Inc. I understand that neither the organizer nor the venue provides medical insurance, and all costs for treatment will be my responsibility.

6. Workshop Rules & Operational Policies

Mandatory Parent Meeting: Parents of all cast members must attend the initial orientation meeting.

• Parent Participation & Volunteer Commitment: One parent per family is required to fulfill a volunteer position selected on the registration sheet and assist with "strike" (set breakdown, cleanup, and loading) following the final performance.

• Communication: Official updates are communicated via Facebook. Parents agree to regularly check the designated Facebook page/group and provide an accurate address upon registration.

• Costumes: Cast members provide their own basic costume items or pay a costume rental fee as specified by production leadership.

• Absences & Tech Week: Attendance is critical. Cast members who miss rehearsals may be cut from specific numbers, as missed material cannot be re-taught. Conflicts must be submitted with registration. Attendance during Tech Week (the week of the performance) is mandatory—absences during Tech Week are not permitted and will result in consequences for the participant.

• Behavior & Dismissal: Cast members must be capable of focusing for up to 90 minutes at a time. Disruptive students will be asked to sit out. Inappropriate behavior by a student or parent may result in immediate dismissal from the program without a refund.
